北极星对于南半球的一些地方是恒隐星 ,用大家熟知的测量北极星的地平高度测地面点的地理纬度是不可行的 ,南半球地面点的地理纬度理论上可以根据测量已知赤纬的天体到达测地上中天时的地平高度 ,在地平 -时角坐标系里进行计算求出地理纬度。
